Technology and invention have played important roles in Australia's social history.

Importantly, they have enhanced the quality of life for many people with disabilities by providing such things as alternative methods of communication, increased mobility, additional educational tools and more accessible forms of entertainment.

Significant improvements have resulted from the rapid advances in computer technology, particularly the development of the personal computer throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

Other technologies, such as the invention of television and tape recorders, have also made an impact.
